The exhibition Where the Day Begins, presented as part of lille3000 - Renaissance, takes the form of a poetic journey centered on the theme of individual emancipation through the (re)discovery of the surrounding world.
Like Homer’s Odyssey or Dante’s Divine Comedy – and also contemporary role-playing games – this unique visual narrative invites visitors to embark on a sensitive and mysterious journey where, from artwork to artwork, they uncover the perception and awareness that humans have about knowledge, symbols, nature, the body, creation, space, and time.
Where the Day Begins brings together over one hundred thirty contemporary sculptures, installations, photographs, videos, works on paper, and paintings that interact with an exceptional selection of nearly thirty medieval and Renaissance books, prints, and drawings. Chosen for its evocative power, this remarkable collection is arranged within the temporary exhibition halls of LaM in twelve chapters, preceded by a prologue and followed by an epilogue.
